My recent work reflects the pursuit and joy in exploring textures created by collaging various papers. Some use only oriental papers, while others use paper colored by me to reflect a feeling, or emotive response. Occasionally, I will utilize bits of other watercolor samples that may be the color and/or texture I am seeking at the time.
With a variety of media from which to choose, I usually begin with a loose watercolor design, followed by layering of collaged papers. After the initial layering is dry, I assess the painting for design, composition, color harmony and line quality.
Depending on where the painting takes me, (it can go in a direction not initially planned), I will utilize acrylic paint, or watercolor, gouache, textural elements and/ or watercolor pencils to achieve my desired effect.
